Odessa International Medical University participates in Bologna’ process and training of students is performed due to European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
European credit transfer and accumulation system (ECTS) – is a system of transferring and accumulating credits used in the European Higher Education Area with the aim to provide recognition, verify qualifications and educational components, facilitate academic mobility of higher education applicants.
The system is based on defining academic workload of the higher education applicants required to achieve specified learning outcomes and is recorded in ECTS credits.
Specialty of MEDICINE
The curriculum of the program is arranged due to 6 years term of study which is equivalent to 360 credits ECTS. One study year lasts 40 weeks and includes 60 credits, 1 credit ECTS is 30 academic hours. One study year consists of 2 semesters. To graduate from the university, students will need to pass licensed exam “Krok-1” (passed in 3rd year of study) and “Krok-2” (passed in the year of graduation).
Within the study period, a student should fulfill the training program according to the curriculum, which includes time for lectures, practical classes, seminar classes, practical trainings, self-education work and tests. The structure of the curriculum includes cycles of training: humanitarian and sociological and economic (33 ECTS credits), natural and scientific (77 ECTS credits), professional (217 ECTS credits) and practical (21 ECTS credits) training, elective disciplines (8 ECTS credits), certification of graduates (4 ECTS credits).
Qualification “Doctor of Medicine” is conferred after successful completion of a program and getting general and special fundamental and professionally-oriented knowledge, abilities, skills, competencies, necessary to fulfill standard professional tasks, connected with his/her activities at any position in a medical sphere. The object of activity is a human with psychological and physiological peculiarities, health, maintenance of health, prevention of diseases, treatment, and population health.
After completion of study, the graduate will have following abilities:
− Ability to apply acquired knowledge, skills and understanding in humanitarian, fundamental, sanitary and clinical disciplines for solving typical tasks in physician’s activities, sphere of applying of which is envisaged by lists of syndromes and symptoms, diseases, emergency conditions, laboratory and instrumental tests, medical manipulations;
− Collecting information about patient;
− Evaluation of results of questioning, physical examination, data of laboratory and instrumental tests;
− Determining preclinical diagnoses of a disease;
− Determination of a disease treatment approach and principles;
− Determination of necessary: diet, routine of work and rest for treatment of diseases;
− Determining supervision of patients required dispensary observation;
− Diagnosing emergency conditions and rendering medical aid;
− Carrying out of sanitary-hygienic and preventive arrangements;
− Planning of preventive and anti-epidemic arrangements against infectious diseases;
− Conducting of medical and evacuation arrangements;
− Determining tactics for giving emergency medical aid and rendering emergency medical aid;
− Conducting of medical manipulations;
− Determining tactics for physiological delivery and post-delivery period;
− Evaluation of environmental influence on population’s health;
− Keeping of medical documentation. Processing of public, social and medical information.
Making judgments:
− Ability to evaluate state of person’s health and provide its preservation on the basis of acquired vocationally-oriented knowledge, abilities, skills and competencies, taking into consideration influence of environment and other factors of his/her health.
− Ability to evaluate sanitary-hygienic state of environment in order to determine sanitary- hygienic and preventive arrangements.
− Ability to apply acquired knowledge on existing system of health care for optimization of his/her own professional activities and participation in solving practical tasks of medical sphere.
− Final shaping of a professional with appropriate personal qualities, sticking to physician’s ethical code.
Specialty of DENTISTRY
The curriculum of the program is arranged due to 5 years term of study which is equivalent to 308 credits ECTS. One study year lasts 40 weeks and includes 60 credits, 1 credit ECTS is 30 academic hours. One study year consists of 2 semesters. To graduate from the university, students will need to pass licensed exam “Krok-1” (passed in 3rd year of study) and “Krok-2” (passed in the year of graduation).
Within the study period, a student should fulfill the training program according to the curriculum, which includes time for lectures, practical, seminar classes, practical trainings, self-education work and tests. The structure of the curriculum includes cycles of training: humanitarian and sociological and economic (32 ECTS credits), natural and scientific (61,5 ECTS credits), professional (181 ECTS credits) and practical (26,5 ECTS credits) training, elective disciplines (7 ECTS credits).
Successful completion of the training program involves obtaining by the individual, who is given a qualification of a “dentist”, general and specific fundamental and profession- oriented knowledge, abilities, skills, competencies, required for professional expertise, in conjunction with his/her medical activity on the appropriate position. The object of activity is person health, health support, prevention and treatment of oral diseases, population oral health.
After completion of study, the graduate will have following abilities:
✓ Preclinical and final clinical diagnosing of major oral diseases oral disease. Diagnosing of emergency situations.
✓ Planning of preventive measures to promote and maintain population good oral health.
✓ Ensuring the administration of treatment-and-evacuation services.
✓ Taking a medical history from a patient.
✓ Creating treatment plan and principles to treat diseases, work-rest regime and nutrition in treating diseases.
✓ Creating the policy of dental patient care in somatic pathology.
✓ Carrying out medical manipulations.
✓ Treating major oral diseases.
✓ Creating the policy of providing medical care in emergency situations.
✓ Creating the policy of patients care, subjected to regular medical check-up .
✓ Evaluating environmental influence on the state of population health.
✓ Keeping medical records, handling the state, social and medical information.
Making judgments:
– The ability to utilize the gained knowledge, skills and competencies in conjunction with dentist’s technical skills in providing oral health services, stipulated by the specification of syndromes and symptoms of diseases, emergency situations, laboratory and instrumental studies, medical manipulations, approved by the field standards of Higher Education.
Specialty of PHARMACY
The curriculum of the program is arranged due to 5 years term of study which is equivalent to 300 credits ECTS. One study year lasts 40 weeks and includes 60 credits, 1 credit ECTS is 30 academic hours. One study year consists of 2 semesters. To graduate from the university, students will need to pass licensed exam “Krok-1” (passed in 3rd year of study) and “Krok-2” (passed in the year of graduation).
Within the study period, a student should fulfill the training program according to the curriculum, which includes time for lectures, practical, seminar classes, practical trainings, self-education work and tests. The structure of the curriculum includes cycles of training: humanitarian and sociological and economic (30 ECTS credits), natural and scientific (92 ECTS credits), professional (136,5 ECTS credits), practical training (34,5 ECTS credits), certification of graduates (4,5 ECTS credits), and elective disciplines (2,5 ECTS credits).
Successful completion of the program allows to a person who has got qualification “Master of Pharmacy” to acquire knowledge associated with her/his activity in the branch of Pharmacy on the corresponding position. The object of professional activity is to provide skilled pharmaceutical treatment, to maintain human health.
After completion of study, the graduate will have following abilities:
✓ To accept prescriptions from patients and to dispense produced dosage forms and ready-made medicines.
✓ Production of pharmaceutical and industrial dosage forms.
✓ To determine required amount of medicines, marketing of drugs and quality control of drugs production.
✓ The implementation of qualitative and quantitative chemical control.
✓ Analyses of herbal medical raw materials and herbal medicines.
✓ Development of analytical and normative documents.
✓ Consultations on medical therapy.
✓ Organization of drugstores, pharmaceutical enterprises, human recourses management.
Making judgments:
– Ability to use obtained knowledge, skills and understanding in order to solve typical issues associated with professional activity in the branch of Pharmacy, which includes calculation of basic economic performance of pharmacy, drugs production and its control on the basis of drugstores and factories. Professional formation with appropriate personal qualities, following by pharmacist’s ethical code.
Specialty of NURSING
The curriculum of the program is arranged due to 4 years term of study which is equivalent to 240 credits ECTS. One study year lasts 40 weeks and includes 60 credits, 1 credit ECTS is 30 academic hours. One study year consists of 2 semesters. To graduate from the university, students will need to pass licensed exam “Krok-Б”.
Within the study period, a student should fulfill the training program according to the curriculum, which includes time for lectures, practical, seminar classes, practical trainings, self-education work and tests.
Successful completion of the program allows to a person who has got qualification “Bachelor of Science in Nursing” to acquire knowledge associated with her/his activity in the branch of Nursing on the corresponding position. The object of professional activity is to provide skilled nursing treatment, to maintain human health.
After completion of study, the graduate will have following abilities:
✓ To prepare patients to undergo complex laboratory tests and instrumental methods of examination.
✓ To take special care and treat the patient.
